Roadmap

What is in it, and what comes next.

Everything below the first heading is built and works today. Everything under the second is not, and is what version 2 is being built out of. Nothing here has a date on it, because a date we invented would be worth less than the list itself.

In it today

Thirty-six items off the build list, most of them finished between the third and the eighth of September 2026. The ones worth a paragraph of their own end up on the blog.

Recording

  • A display, a single window, or an area you draw on the screen
  • Camera, microphone and system sound, each recorded to its own track
  • A countdown before it starts, size presets, and your desktop icons hidden while it runs
  • Every click and every key press logged, so the editor can use them afterwards
  • Written in chunks as it goes, so a crash still leaves a file that opens

Done for you, before you open it

  • Zoom clips written from the clicks you made, easing in and out around the pointer
  • The pointer smoothed onto a spring, in the shape you really had: an I-beam over text, a hand over a link
  • The pointer no longer jumps at a cut, it travels across it
  • Twelve wallpapers, twelve gradients, a flat colour, or an image of your own
  • Padding, corner radius, inset and a directional shadow, or one button back to full frame
  • For vertical video, a backdrop made from the picture itself, blurred, instead of empty bars

Editing

  • Several recordings in one project: append, reorder, trim and split
  • Import video, audio and still images onto the timeline
  • Text overlays with a real editor, and entry and exit animations
  • Arrows, shapes and images placed over the picture
  • Blur and mosaic over anything that must not be published
  • A transition on any join: defocus, cross dissolve, or fade through black
  • Silence chips: the quiet stretches found and cut out of every track at once
  • Edit by deleting words from the transcript, and the video is cut with them
  • Undo and redo across all of it

Sound

  • Record a voiceover while the timeline plays, with delay compensation
  • Voice enhancement and loudness normalisation applied at export
  • Click and key sounds, generated by arithmetic rather than played from samples
  • Volume keyframes on three separate audio tracks

Captions

  • Whisper running on your own machine, in ninety nine languages, with nothing uploaded
  • Word level timing, so a caption follows the speech instead of guessing
  • Captions typed by hand and styled, right to left included

Camera

  • Nine anchors, plus crop and free position
  • Split screen and vertical stack layouts
  • Visible only over the parts of the timeline you choose
  • Its own camera for each recording in the project
  • Export the camera and the screen as separate files

Canvas, export and safety

  • Aspect ratio presets: landscape, square and vertical
  • MP4 or GIF, sized for where it is going, with the file size estimated first
  • Copy the finished video straight to the clipboard
  • Export on the graphics card, with the processor kept as the fallback
  • Autosave every minute, crash recovery, and a save before every export

Version 2

Not built. This is the list being worked through, and the order comes from what people ask for rather than from what is easiest, so saying which of these you want genuinely moves it.

  • Export just part of the timeline
    Mark a range and render only that, instead of the whole project.
  • Freeze a frame
    Hold one frame still for as long as you want, in the middle of a take.
  • Zoom out below one hundred percent
    Shrink the recording inside the canvas to mark an aside.
  • Copy and paste a zoom or an overlay
    Build one, then reuse it, instead of setting it up again.
  • Type a number anywhere there is a slider
    Because a slider cannot hit 64 exactly and sometimes 64 is what you want.
  • Backgrounds that move
    The wallpapers are drawn rather than photographed, so they can drift slowly instead of sitting still.
  • An export queue
    Line several exports up and walk away.
  • Remove filler words
    The ums and the ers found and cut, the way the silences already are. English first.
  • Change the speed of a clipa big one
    Faster or slower, with the voice still sounding like a voice and not like a chipmunk. The hardest thing on this list.
  • A blur box that follows what it hidesa big one
    Today a blur region stays where you put it, so scrolling the page moves the thing being hidden out from under it. Fixing that means tracking the picture, which is a project of its own. Nobody in this category has solved it.
  • Two clips on screen at oncea big one
    Picture in picture, or two different shots side by side, for anything that is not the camera. This is the one that turns a screen recorder into a light video editor, so it is a decision to take deliberately rather than a queue position.

Things that are not on the list, and will not be

Some of what people ask for would mean sending your recording to a server, or bundling somebody else's model, or shipping a driver. Background removal for the webcam needs a segmentation model. Share links, view counts and comments on a video all need an account and an upload. A virtual camera for livestreams needs a signed driver and an installer.

None of those are hard to want. They are just not compatible with a single app that makes no network connections at all, which is the promise the privacy policy makes and the one worth keeping. If one of them matters enough to you to change that trade, the feedback board is where to say so.
