A camera for each recording

1 min read

Every recording carries its own camera. Append a second take and it brings its own camera file with it, or brings none if the camera was off for that one.

What this makes possible

Camera on for the introduction, off for the demonstration. Two takes, and the second simply has no camera. Nothing to switch off.

Two days, two cameras. A laptop webcam on Monday and a proper camera on Thursday. Each keeps its own crop, its own flip setting and its own audio offset, so fixing the first does not break the second.

A camera that only exists in the middle. Record the walkthrough without a camera, then record your commentary with one, and append it.

What is shared and what is not

Shared across the project: where the camera sits, how big it is, how round it is, and which layout it uses. One look for the whole video, which is what stops it feeling like two videos stitched together.

Per recording: the crop, the horizontal and vertical flips, and the audio sync offset.

Belongs to at the top of the Camera tab tells you which one you are editing. If the tab says this recording has no camera but another one in the project does, that is the message telling you to move the playhead to the take that has one.

Exporting them apart

If you want the camera as a separate file rather than composited into the video, that is a switch in the export window. See Exporting the camera separately.
