Fixing the words

The transcript appears as a list of lines. Click one to edit it, and the picture follows as you type.

A name or a term spelled wrong every time is better fixed at the source: put it in the prompt on the same tab, one per line, and generate again.

Timing

Each line has a start and an end. Play the take and press [ to set the start of the line you are working on to the playhead, and ] to set its end. The Next and Ends here buttons do the same with the mouse.

That is the whole workflow for timing captions by hand: play, listen, press. Reaching for the mouse between presses is what makes the job miserable, so the bracket keys exist.

Lines that came from the recogniser already have word level timing and usually need none of this.

Adding and removing

Add one at the playhead makes a new line. Delete this caption removes the selected one.

Style

Under CAPTION STYLE: Font, Bold, Text colour, Box colour and Box opacity.

At zero box opacity there is no box at all, only the words. That is what suits a caption over a video, and it is worth trying before reaching for a solid black bar.

Position and Margin place the captions, or drag them up and down on the preview, including over the camera block if that is where they belong.

Width is how wide a line is allowed to be before it wraps.

Lines that are too long

Re-fit lines to the picture recuts every line so none of them wraps at the size they are drawn. Worth pressing after changing the canvas shape or the caption size, because a line that fitted on a 16:9 canvas does not fit on a vertical one.

Right to left

Reads from handles Persian, Arabic and Hebrew. Auto reads the letters and lays the line out correctly on its own, which is right almost always.
