Undo and redo

1 min read

Ctrl+Z undoes. Ctrl+Y redoes, and so does Ctrl+Shift+Z if that is the one your fingers know.

Both work wherever the focus is in the Studio. You do not have to click back on the timeline first.

What counts as one step

One thing you did. A whole drag is one step, not forty: dragging a clip across the timeline and letting go is undone by a single press, rather than by replaying the drag backwards in increments.

The same is true of a slider. Pushing the background blur from nothing to a lot and releasing is one step.

What it covers

Everything about the project: clips, trims, splits, reorders, zooms, overlays, captions, the background, the camera, the canvas shape, the lot. Undo restores the whole document as it was, and the preview, the timeline and the panel on the right all catch up together.

What it does not cover

Things that are not the project. Exporting a file, saving, and the app's own settings are not edits and cannot be undone. Neither can deleting a recording from disk.

A note on confidence

Because undo covers the whole project, it is safe to be reckless. Try the vertical canvas. Cut the silences and see what it looks like. Push the camera somewhere strange. The cost of not liking any of it is one keystroke, and people who know that end up with better videos than people who are careful.
