Placing and sizing the camera

1 min read

With nothing selected, open the Camera tab. Everything here applies to the whole project.

Where it sits

Camera at gives you nine anchors: the four corners, the middles of the four edges, and the centre.

Or ignore them and drag the camera on the preview. That switches it to Custom, meaning it is where you put it, and Back to a corner returns it to an anchor.

Bottom left and bottom right are the usual choices. Pick the side away from whatever your video is about, and then check the whole take, because a menu you open in the second half may be exactly where you put your face.

What shape it is

Roundness goes from a rectangle with slightly rounded corners all the way to a circle.

Size is how big it is when the recording is not zoomed in.

Different size during zoom lets you set a second, usually smaller, Zoomed size. When the picture pushes in to show detail, the camera gets out of the way. This is on for a reason: a zoom exists to show something, and a large camera sitting on top of that something defeats it.

Flips

Flip horizontally mirrors the picture. Off shows what the camera really saw, so writing on a shirt or a whiteboard reads the right way round. On is what you are used to seeing in a mirror, and it is what most video calls show you.

Flip vertically is for a take that came out upside down, which happens with some capture devices. A new recording should not need it.

Hiding it

Hide camera takes it out of the whole project without deleting anything. To hide it for only part of the video, see When the camera is on screen.
